Brad Paisley’s “Same Here” Highlights Shared Humanity Of Americans And Ukrainians
Brad Paisley, the legendary country singer, released a new song on Friday morning that contrasts the humanity of Americans with that of Ukrainians fighting for their lives. Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the President of Ukraine, is also featured.
Because, as he says in the song “Same Here,” “there’s just no differences,” Paisley draws parallels between people’s hopes and fears in both countries.
He also mentions that Americans and Ukrainians both enjoy sunsets, weddings, and family problems.
The lyrics say that if you “miss your mama and worry about your babies, and love each other like crazy, and want someone to share your hopes and fears, same here,” you’re not alone.
Paisley also claims in the song that people from both countries go to bars to “buy each other beers and solve all the world’s problems.” ‘People cry when they’re happy, and the same is true here,’ the lyrics continue.
According to The Associated Press, the three-time Grammy winner was inspired to write the song after seeing news coverage of Russian troops invading Ukraine, and despite his inability to speak Ukrainian, he could “recognise the tears.”
He felt helpless after seeing footage of people being evicted from their homes and forced to flee for their safety.
We may be under different banners and speak different languages, but we have a lot in common, he said. “I always try to hit it out of the park because I can’t sleep well unless I take chances like this. As a songwriter, I find the most fulfilment when I am working on material that I am passionate about. I’m not sure if it’s risky, but there are times when I feel like it’s too much for me.”
When Paisley said, “the world felt like it was in a new place that it hadn’t been in decades,” he was describing how the world felt at the time.
Although Ukraine isn’t mentioned by name, the song does include a cameo by Zelenskyy, whom Paisley refers to as “a friend across the ocean.”
“He asserts that our realities are vastly different. Okay, you’re correct, but I must say,” Paisley elaborates when he speaks up. He has a wife he adores, hopes and dreams for his country, and a football team that consistently disappoints him.
Furthermore, he claims: “He wishes for security and independence. I’m in the same boat as you.”
“Hi, Brad,” Zelenskyy says in the song.
Mr. President, this is Paisley greeting you.
In the song, Zelenskyy acknowledges many parallels between their countries: “We use a variety of languages in our daily lives. Yes, but I believe we both value youth, liberty, the American flag, our armed forces, and the American people. Without a doubt, our most valuable possession. Along with companions. Furthermore, we are very proud of our armed forces, which protect our liberties and even our lives.”
“There isn’t much separating American and Canadian values. It is critical that they assure themselves that they are similar “what Ukraine’s president is quoted as saying in a song.
Paisley’s new single “Same Here” is the first single from his upcoming album “Son of the Mountains,” which is set to be released later this year.
Paisley, Lee Thomas Miller (who also worked on Paisley’s hits “The World” and “Perfect Storm”), and Taylor Goldsmith of Dawes wrote the song.
According to the country singer, Zelenskyy approved of the song and suggested some changes.
It was made public on the anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
“We do deal with the problems of the world,” Paisley said. “How do you write songs about topics that are both extremely timely and unusual for the genre in which you normally write? And, yes, I feel as if I’ve dug deep and worked hard to convey something with this album.”
“That’s where it gets really rewarding,” he explained, “feeling like maybe the heart of this helps paint the picture they want to paint.”
Paisley has volunteered as a celebrity ambassador for Ukraine’s United24 crowdfunding campaign.
He promised that the song’s royalties would be donated to United24 and used to build shelters for the thousands of Ukrainians displaced by the conflict.
Paisley was invited to visit Ukraine while serving with American troops in Afghanistan. He expressed an interest in attending, but no plans have been made as of yet.
