Muse’s ‘Will Of The People’ Is Set To Become The First UK Number One Using NFT Technology
Muse’s Will Of The People (via Warner Recordings) is almost certain to top the UK charts — and make history in the process.
Will Of The People should be the territory’s first leader to use NFT technology.
The ninth studio album by the British alternative rock trio was released with a limited-edition “Digital Pressing,” a pioneering standalone format created through a collaboration between Warner Music U.K. and eco-friendly NFT specialist marketplace Serenade.
Serenade created the chart-eligible digital release to “satisfy a superfan’s appetite for scarcity, exclusive content, and community recognition,” according to a statement from the Australia-based company.
It’s unlikely that any record will prevent Muse from becoming the UK’s seventh number one.
According to the Official Charts Company, Will of the People is outselling the rest of the Top 10 combined at the midweek mark.
The album isn’t the first to chart in the United Kingdom. Aitch’s debut Close To Home debuted at No. 2 last Friday (Sept. 26), becoming the first NFT project to appear on the chart proper.
Further down the chart, veteran indie-rockers Embrace could make their eighth Top 10 appearance in the UK with How To Be A Person Like Other People (Mo’Betta), which debuted at No. 4. The British band, led by brothers Danny and Richard McNamara, launched their career in the best possible way with 1998’s The Good Will Out, which topped the U.K. chart, the first of three No. 1s.

DJ Khaled could set a career high with his latest collab-heavy studio album God Did (Epic/We The Best), which debuted at No. 5 on the Billboard 200. DJ Khaled’s best chart position in the United Kingdom to date is No. 6 with 2019’s Father of Asahd.
Finally, Blondie’s first boxed set, Against The Odds 1974-1982, could give the punk era legends a 15th Top 40 appearance in the United Kingdom. Debbie Harry and her band are ranked 11th on the Official Chart Update for their career retrospective.
