Following The Deaths Of Protesters In Iran, Dua Lipa expresses Her Support For Women’s Rights: ‘Continue To Keep The World Watching’
Dua Lipa is speaking out for Iranian women.
On Saturday (Oct. 8), the 27-year-old pop superstar took to social media to draw attention to the deaths of numerous young females at the hands of Iranian police and security forces during the country’s ongoing protests.
“Iranian security forces beaten to death Sarina Esmailzadeh, 16, for protesting for women’s rights in Iran.” Nika Shakarami, 16, was killed after protesting by burning her headscarf. Hadis Najafi, 23, was shot multiple times during protests sparked by the death of Mahsa Amini, 22, following her arrest by the country’s morality police,” the “Levitating” singer captioned an Instagram gallery honouring the girls.
Men and women poured into the streets of Iran in protest of Amini’s death, demanding that their grievances be heard.
“Only four young women out of over 100 protestors will pay with their lives,” Lipa wrote in her post. “An additional 1,200 people are believed to be in police custody.” Please don’t look away; the entire world is watching. Each of us can contribute our platform, and together we can make some fkn noise. “I support the Iranian women.”
Lipa is one of many musicians who have expressed their support for Iranian women, including Justin Bieber, Yungblud, Ricky Martin, and Halsey. Lipa also took to Twitter Live in late September to discuss Amini and the subsequent protests.
“One of the most powerful and inspiring things I’ve seen in many years is images of women protesting in the streets by cutting their hair and burning their hijabs,” she said. “To any Iranian or foreign listeners, we see you, hear you, and stand in solidarity with you.”
