Arctic Monkeys’ ‘The Car’ Is Now Available To Stream.
The Arctic Monkeys have new tyres.
The Car (via Domino Recordings), the British indie-rockers’ seventh studio album, which left the garage at the stroke of midnight, will hope to maintain the band’s hot streak.
Arctic Monkeys’ first studio album, Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not (2006), went to No. 1 in the United Kingdom, followed by Favourite Worst Nightmare (2007), Humbug (2009), Suck It and See (2011), AM (2013), and Tranquility Base Hotel + Casino (2018), which was a best-seller on vinyl. Also, with his side project The Last Shadow Puppets, frontman Alex Turner has led the national tally.
The Car, produced by James Ford, contains ten new songs written by Turner, as well as previously released songs “There’d Better Be A Mirrorball,” “I Ain’t Quite Where I Think I Am,” and “Body Paint.”
“The way the project was put together this time was not unlike, in my mind, making a movie,” Turner tells Alternative Press. “Obviously, I have no idea what that’s like,” he explained, “but there was a longer post-production period in this, trying to take a lot more care of how everything fits together, the space and the dynamics within it… making it a thing that works from start to finish.” “It’s not like I haven’t been attempting to do this all along.”
When fully assembled, it’s a lush, complex affair that’s as mature as a cigar nightcap.
The Car’s South American tour dates begin on November 4 at Jeunesse Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and end on November 19 at Corona Capital Festival in Mexico City. Live shows are scheduled for Australia, the United Kingdom, and Europe, with another tour of North America beginning in August.
