Backstreet Boys Honor Aaron Carter At London Show: “He’s A Part Of Our Family”
The Backstreet Boys performed at London’s O2 Arena on Sunday (Nov. 6), but it was an emotional set for Nick Carter, who had lost his younger brother Aaron Carter the day before.
In his honour, a photo of Aaron was projected on the large screen with the words: Aaron Carter 1987-2022. Nick’s bandmates gave him hugs and pats on the back as they spoke on Aaron’s behalf.
“We were all raised together. We’ve experienced highs and lows, ups and downs. “You’ve been there with us, and we’ve been there with you,” Kevin Richardson told the audience.
“Tonight, we’ve got a little bit of a heavy heart since we lost one of our family members yesterday,” he stated. We simply wanted to include him in our presentation at some point. Aaron Carter, Nick’s younger brother, died yesterday.”
“He’s a member of our family,” Richardson explained. “We appreciate all of your love, well wishes, and encouragement.”
Howie Dorough then added, “We’d like to dedicate this next song to our little brother Aaron Carter.”
In Aaron’s tribute, the ensemble began performing “Breathe” a cappella.
Aaron Carter died on Saturday at the age of 34, his manager confirmed to Billboard. The singer’s career began in the 1990s, when he opened for the Backstreet Boys at the age of nine. He went on to create Billboard Hot 100 songs such as “Aaron’s Party (Come Get It)” and “That’s How I Beat Shaq,” both of which appeared on the Aaron’s Party (Come and Get It) album, which peaked at No. 4 on the Billboard 200 list in 2000. He has published five studio albums, worked in television, and performed on Broadway.
Earlier on Sunday, Nick posted a tribute to his brother on Instagram.
“My heart is shattered. “Despite the fact that my connection with my brother has been tough, my affection for him has never diminished,” he wrote. “I’ve always hoped that he’d someday desire to follow a healthy path and eventually obtain the help that he so urgently needed.” Sometimes we want to blame someone or something for a loss, but the truth is that addiction and mental illness are the true villains in this situation. My brother will be missed more than anyone would ever realise. Chizz, I adore you. Now you can have the peace you could never find on Earth…. “I adore you, little brother.”
