Beyoncé Tops The US Album Charts In 2022 With “Renaissance.”
Beyoncé’s seventh studio album, ” Renaissance,” debuted at the top of the Billboard 200 chart in the United States, marking the singer’s seventh consecutive album to do so in its first week of release. (Renaissance)
The artist’s seven studio albums have all debuted at the top of the charts. The most notable aspect of “Renaissance’s” release is that it has quickly become Beyoncé’s highest-charting album in all major markets. In addition to the US, it debuted at the top of the charts in the UK, FR, IE, NL, AU, and NZ. The data for that chart has not yet been made public, but it is a safe bet that it will also be at the top in Canada.
Furthermore, ‘Renaissance’ debuted at Number Two in Germany, moving up one spot from her previous album, ‘Lemonade,’ which debuted at Number One in 2016. Only in Switzerland did album sales fall between ‘Lemonade’ and ‘Renaissance,’ with the latter debuting at number three, one spot lower than ‘Lemonade.’
In its first week of release in the United States, the album “Renaissance” sold an estimated 332,000 copies. It was the year’s second-biggest sales week overall, trailing only Harry Styles’ latest, which sold 521,000 units in its first week, and the biggest week for any record released by a solo female artist, easily surpassing Lizzo’s previous record of 69,000 units sold in its first week. This record was previously held by Lizzo.
Using only full-album purchases (from both physical and digital platforms), Renaissance sold 190,000 copies in the traditional album sales market. Traditional album sales do not take into account streaming data. These sales were divided as follows: 121,000 CDs, 43,000 digital downloads, and 26,000 vinyl copies were distributed.
According to Billboard, 72% of total CD volume was sold online in 2018. There’s no doubt that if only album sales were taken into account, “Renaissance” would have debuted at number one on the Billboard 200. The song would have topped the charts even if no physical copies were ever sold due to its incredible performance on streaming services. This week’s second-placed album was Bad Bunny’s “Un Verano Sin Ti,” which sold 104,000 copies.
The vinyl release of “Renaissance” has become the best-selling release of its kind since Luminate (on which the Billboard 200 is based) began tracking sales in 1991. (an R&B or hip-hop album released by a woman). This is due to the fact that 26,000 copies of the “Renaissance” vinyl edition have already been sold. Unfortunately, Bey’s online store sold out of the first pressing of the album shortly before its public release, making it difficult to find a copy of the album. However, the album will be re-released on September 16 with a new pressing.
Beyoncé has made history by becoming the first female artist to have an album debut at the top of the Billboard 200 in 2022 as a result of her record-breaking sales week. Adele’s “30,” released last November, is the most recent album to accomplish this feat. Columbia Records is notable for having released “Renaissance,” “30,” and “Harry’s House.”
Beyoncé’s most recent studio album, “Renaissance,” received four stars when it was released on July 29. The record, according to Williams, “continues [s] to lead the charge to bring Black culture back to the forefront of house and dance scenes.” Another fan of the album is Lil Nas X, who says it is “kinda changing my life in some ways.” The album’s title is Renaissance.
Beyoncé has released not only a standalone remix of her song “Break My Soul” following the release of her album “Renaissance,” but also a four-track remix EP featuring contributions from Madonna. Beyoncé was forced to remove an ableist lyric from “Heated,” and “Energy” samples from Kelis’ “Milkshake.” There have also been some debates about the album.
