BLACKPINK Explain The Meaning Of ‘Pink Venom,’ Tease New Album And Tour: ‘All Of Our Songs Are Excellent’
BLACKPINK held a private online press conference on Friday (August 19) in Seoul to discuss the song, the group’s musical identity, and a sneak peek at their upcoming Born Pink album and tour in honor of the release of their highly anticipated new single “Pink Venom.”
“Since the name of our album is Born Pink, we wanted to convey as much of our identity as possible in the song,” Jennie explained. ” We were moved by the contrast between the connotations of the words “pink” and “venom.” BLACKPINK was chosen as a name to reflect our love of irony. Pink venom is a lovely poison, but words truly define us.” Then, Jennie reiterated that BLACKPINK’s “essence” is self-assurance. “We believe it is the most distinct and clear way to represent us,” she said, adding, “but some are concerned that we will stray from our identity.”
Jisoo describes the track’s production as a mashup of contemporary hip-hop and the traditional Korean instrumental geomungo (which can be seen in the “Venom” music video). Rosé claims that the upbeat music brought the crew back to life. “I remember the first time I heard the song in the studio; it was really new and sounds we had never tried,” the singer recalled. I just wanted to record the song and post our video as soon as possible.
Lisa, the group’s star dancer, gushed about the “powerful” choreography, which included a “fang dance” appropriate for TikTok. “There’s an impactful dance break at the end [of the music video], and the set is just amazing,” Lisa continued. We made a fang with our hands to most intuitively express the ‘Pink Venom’ concept; anyone can easily follow it.

Despite the MC’s attempts to boost the girls’ confidence by highlighting the group’s numerous accomplishments, BLACKPINK remained firmly focused on the music. Instead of breaking records, the group has been focusing on creating new music, according to Rosé.
“All of our songs are really good,” Lisa agreed, but she added, “we wanted to show this [song] first to BLINKs,” referring to Born Pink’s devoted fanbase.
BLINK will embark on the “Born Pink” world tour this fall, performing in arenas from North America to Europe to Asia to Australia. Jisoo perfectly captured the band’s mood when he said, “ready to give everything we have.” “Because this is our first [tour] in a long time,” Jennie explained, “we’d like to emphasize our creativity by performing a lot of brand new material.” Lisa has stated that the group’s tour objectives include performing in larger venues in more cities.
The music video for “Pink Venom” has already surpassed 35 million views in less than six hours, putting it on track to break even more records and usher in a new era for BLACKPINK.
