Did Frank Ocean’s Merch Posters Tease A New Album?
Fans of Frank Ocean have been waiting for a new album since 2016’s Blonde, and the singer appears to be giving them a glimmer of hope that their long-held desires may be coming true.
A cryptic letter printed on the back of posters shipped out in a new Blonded merch sale, as posted by fans on Twitter, explains what happened in 2019, when Ocean released a series of singles without an album at the end of the road. “The Recording Artist has subsequently altered his mind regarding the singles model, and is once again more interested in durational bodies of work,” he wrote, which is by no means a confirmation of an album, but it’s enough to get fans excited.
Ocean will also perform at the Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival, alongside headliners Bad Bunny and BLACKPINK. The 2023 version will take place over two weekends, from April 14 to 16, and then again from April 21 to 23.
The 35-year-old rapper was originally scheduled to appear at the festival’s cancelled 2020 epidemic edition; he made his Coachella debut on a side stage in 2012.
Blonde, his 2016 album, debuted at the top of the Billboard 200 albums list on September 10, 2016 and spent an incredible 295 weeks on the chart. Blonde is presently ranked No. 115 on the Billboard 200 for the week of January 14, 2023. Ocean’s most recent singles, “Dear April” and “Cayendo,” were released in March 2020.
Ocean has also published two other albums, Nostalgia, Ultra (2011) and Channel Orange (2012).
