Disney Lorcana’s New Set Takes A Deep Dive Into The Sword In The Stone And The Great Mouse Detective
Disney Lorcana, the card game dedicated to Disney fans, isn’t afraid to delve deep into Disney’s treasure trove of movies. This week, Ravensburger’s Rise of the Floodborn reveals new cards, taking inspiration from the lesser-known classics, “The Sword in the Stone” and “The Great Mouse Detective.”
Merlin and Madam Mim’s Transformation
Among the exciting reveals are updated forms for beloved characters Merlin and Madam Mim. Merlin will now have Squirrel and Crab forms, and Madam Mim has adopted a Fox form, with hints of a Dragon form in the near future. Alongside these card updates, an OP Kit has been introduced, teasing more cards to come in the upcoming set. Notably, all Seven Dwarves will have their individual cards, and characters from “The Great Mouse Detective” will make their debut.
Unexpected Characters from The Great Mouse Detective
The OP Kit also dropped a surprise by announcing character cards for Basil, Hiram Flaversham, and Mrs. Judson from “The Great Mouse Detective.” While Basil’s presence was anticipated, Hiram Flaversham and Mrs. Judson’s inclusion showcases Disney Lorcana’s commitment to exploring every facet of Disney’s animated movie portfolio.
Sustaining Longevity Through Obscurity
With Disney’s extensive portfolio of 61 animated films, Disney Lorcana faces the challenge of releasing 816 cards annually. To meet this demand, the game must continually introduce characters from Disney’s lesser-known movies alongside iconic figures like Mickey Mouse, Aladdin, and Cinderella.
A Niche Attraction for Disney Enthusiasts
By exploring the depths of the Disney Vault, Disney Lorcana aims to keep Disney fans engaged and intrigued. Every Disney movie, no matter how obscure, has its dedicated fanbase, and collectors may eagerly pursue every card associated with their favorite films. For instance, fans can anticipate the arrival of “The Black Cauldron” cards with enthusiasm.
