Elton John Asserts That His Collaboration With Britney Spears, “Hold Me Closer,” Is “All About Her.”
Elton John spoke highly of his collaboration with Britney Spears on their new single “Hold Me Closer.”
“I’m really happy for Britney, especially because having her on this record is such a gas, for starters,” he said in an interview with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe on Thursday (Sept. 1). “But this is someone who has been through hell and needed love in her life, a lot of love from a lot of people, and she’s getting it.”
“And she hadn’t really made any music since 2016, so it’s all about her for me,” continued the pop legend. “Life moves at breakneck speed, and I have no idea what will happen, but I’m overjoyed this is happening because I adore the record.” I’m glad it’s ‘Tiny Dancer,’ because it’s one of my favourite songs. I’m a fortunate man. What else can I say? The song has taken off. I’m 75 years old and having the time of my life, which proves that you can be modern and old at the same time if you take an interest in what’s going on.”
“She did it so effortlessly,” he said. “And I’m sure many people wondered, ‘Well, can she still sing?'” I knew she could sing from the beginning because, if you look at old footage, she was the biggest artist in the world and she could sing, dance, and do everything. So I wasn’t concerned about it. What I was concerned about was whether she would be nervous because she hadn’t done it in a while, but she passed with flying colours.”
Billboard is currently trending.
While John revealed that the two have yet to meet privately since the song’s release, it appears Spears is overjoyed with how “Hold Me Closer” turned out. She’s been enjoying her return to the musical spotlight, from sending sweet video messages back and forth with pal Drew Barrymore to posting about the song on social media.
However, Spears is thinking about more than just her recent success. She posted an unfiltered, 22-minute voice memo on YouTube over the weekend about her life post-conservatorship and the heartbreaking impact the 13-year legal control over her life has had on her mental health, self-confidence, and relationship with her family.
