Estupinan Returns As Brighton Challenges Ajax In Europa League
Brighton & Hove Albion’s left-back, Pervis Estupinan, is set to make his comeback in the Europa League Group B match against Ajax, as confirmed by manager Robert De Zerbi. Estupinan, who has been sidelined since suffering a thigh injury against Aston Villa in September, is expected to be on the bench for the crucial encounter.
Manager’s Caution and Squad Challenges
De Zerbi, exercising caution, stated, “Tomorrow he will be on the bench, I don’t want to take a risk with him, but now we don’t have too many solutions in that position.” The manager is strategizing for both the Ajax clash and the upcoming game against Sheffield United on Sunday.
Injury Woes for Brighton
The Seagulls face challenges on the injury front, with key players like Tariq Lamptey, Solly March, Julio Enciso, Jakub Moder, and long-term absentee Danny Welbeck unavailable. Lamptey, recovering from a muscular injury, will not be part of the squad against Ajax.
Brighton’s Europa League Performance
Brighton secured their first Europa League win with a 2-0 victory over Ajax at Amex Stadium two weeks ago. Despite this success, De Zerbi’s side has faced a challenging run, winning just one of their last eight matches. However, they currently sit seventh in the Premier League table.
Ajax’s Response to Recent Setbacks
Ajax, recovering from their loss to Brighton, has undergone a coaching change with John van ‘t Schip taking charge. The team has rebounded with back-to-back league victories, climbing off the bottom of the Eredivisie table. De Zerbi acknowledges the changes, stating, “They are very different because they changed the coach.”
Europa League Fixtures and Group Standings
As the Europa League action unfolds, other Group B fixtures include Toulouse vs. Liverpool and Olympiakos vs. Rangers. Brighton, currently third in Group B, aims to close the one-point gap with leaders Marseille.
