First Stream Latin: Maria Becerra, Snow Tha Product, And More
Maria Becerra’s new single “Automático” pays homage to old-school reggaetón with a conceptual track about getting freaky inside a car and a cutting-edge music video shot in a mechanical shop. Becerra wrote the song, which was produced by Nico Cotton, and said she was inspired by the pioneers of reggaetón to bring it to life. When asked who she thinks would make a good special guest for the dream remix, Becerra simply said Daddy Yankee. “Hopefully before he retires,” she said on this week’s Live With Billboard Latin. “Automático” follows Becerra’s single “Ojalá” and will appear on her sophomore album La Nena de Argentina, which will be released in 2022. — JESSICA RIOS
When it comes to relationships, Colombian twins Las Villa aren’t waiting for anyone. In their new single “Amor y Sal,” they’re women of action. In the rhythmic pop song, they sing, “This was never going to work and we didn’t realise it, always halfway.” “I’m sick of waiting and daydreaming about things that were, are, and will never happen.” The empowering song is a new anthem that I believe many of us can rally behind. — FLORES, GRISELDA
Chris Jedi has recruited two of Puerto Rico’s hottest artists for a collaboration. Jedi teams up with Lunay and Young Miko in “Condado,” where he is featured as an artist-producer and actually starts the song singing, to pay tribute to one of the island’s most touristic spots: Condado. “Condado,” a high-end strip with restaurants, clubs, and hotels next to the ocean, tells the story of an independent girl who enjoys the finer things in life and doesn’t need a man. Miko, a rising rapper, stands out on this track with her flirtatious rap verses and captivating chanteos. — J.R.
“Pia” by Snow Tha Product featuring Lauren Jauregui (Snow Tha Product)
Snow Tha Product, known for her hard-hitting, fast-paced rap anthems, slows things down in her new track. The more rhythmic-leaning and bouncy track, titled “Pia (Pineapple),” is her first collaboration with Lauren Jauregui. “I’ve proven that I’m a really good rapper,” Snow previously told Billboard. “Now I want to push myself to do other things and excel and challenge myself.” “That song is hot. It’s sexy, amazing, and exactly what two Latinas needed to do.” — G.F.
