Gloria Estefan Gets Her Own Barbie Doll: Where Can You Get It?
Gloria Estefan has her own Barbie doll! On September 1, Mattel released a Barbie doll in her likeness to commemorate the music icon’s 65th birthday and her 1989 hit single “Get on Your Feet.”
“I’m honoured to be collaborating with Barbie to create a doll in my likeness, especially as I celebrate my 65th birthday and Hispanic Heritage Month,” Estefan said in a statement to Billboard. “When I worked with the team to design my Barbie, I wanted to make sure I stayed true to my multicultural roots – and I believe we did.”
The collectible Barbie costs $55 and can be found at Amazon, Walmart, Target, and MattelCreations.com. Estefan’s signature Barbie was released ahead of Hispanic Heritage Month, which began on September 15 and ends on October 15.
The Gloria Estefan Barbie is dressed in a black jacket with intricate gold detailing, black leggings accented with a gold waist chain, and thigh-high, leopard-print boots inspired by the Grammy winner’s “Get on Your Feet” music video. The doll also carries a lace-trimmed microphone.
In addition to the doll, Barbie will collaborate with Artstas y Msicos Latino Americanos, a North Philadelphia nonprofit that offers private music lessons, songwriting, audio and production programmes to young people. Barbie will also support one of ALMA’s event programmes and their Mentor-Fellow programmes, which train children in a variety of careers, including arts production and administration.
