Grammy Nominations: Ozzy Osbourne Reacts To ‘Patient Number 9’ ‘The Whole Thing Surprised Me.’
Ozzy Osbourne received four Grammy nominations for his Patient Number 9 album, and he told Billboard that the nominations came as an unexpected, but welcome, surprise.
“The whole thing shocked me,” he tells Lyndsey Havens in a new interview. “I mean, I’d be shocked if I won anything for the album.”
“That’s what I like about the industry. It’s never short of surprises — I love surprises,” he adds in the Q&A clip above.
Osbourne says he’s “kind of excited” to be nominated for best rock album for Patient Number 9, which debuted at the top of Billboard’s Top Rock Albums chart in September. He’s also up for best rock song and best rock performance for “Patient Number 9,” which features Jeff Beck, and best metal performance for “Degradation Rules,” which he co-wrote with Tony Iommi. When asked if he’ll prepare a speech or wing it on Grammy night if he wins any awards, Osbourne admits that giving speeches isn’t his strong suit.
“I’m not very good at giving speeches,” he admits. “I always end up saying it twice or blowing it or whatever it is. I’m sure my wife will figure it out. My wife is standing behind me. My wife is the one who pulls the strings.”
Elsewhere in the interview, the 74-year-old rocker noted that the album’s title, Patient Number 9, is “me, I suppose. For me, the last four years have been hell on earth. I’ve been in such bad shape… physically. In addition, I was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. But, you know, it takes a lot to keep me down.”
