Greenville Anticipates Changes As ECU Game Day Nears: Businesses Prepare For A Pirate-Inspired Influx
Greenville, N.C. (WITN) – With ECU’s game day on the horizon, Greenville is buzzing with excitement and anticipation. Local businesses, like Pirates Deli, are gearing up to embrace the upcoming surge of pirate energy.
The Game Day Enthusiasm
Mohamed Khaled, an employee at a local business, expresses the local sentiment, saying, “We love the game days, it’s the best day we got!” For many, game day is a cherished occasion.
Preparations Underway
Khaled also shared insights into the challenges that game day presents, stating, “It gets hectic, very hectic. When moments like that happen, it’s game over for us. It’s a lot of pressure, but pressure makes time, and that’s what we like.” Businesses are preparing to cater to a substantial influx of people, both before and after the game.
Anticipating a Crowd
According to ECU police, the city is bracing itself for around 30,000 people. Since the game is scheduled for later in the day, around rush hour, Greenville is expected to experience the heaviest traffic between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m.
Safety Concerns Post-Game
Captain Chris Sutton emphasizes the importance of safety, especially after the game ends around 11:30 p.m. The blackout theme of the game calls for extra caution for drivers, given the darkness.
Captain Sutton told WITN, “When our patrons start to leave in all black when it’s all dark outside, then it is very important for the motorist to be very defensive in their driving to limit their distractions so that they can be aware of individuals that may be darting out in the roads to be able to cross the streets.”
Road Closures and Tailgates
To accommodate the anticipated crowd, 14th Street will be closed at 4 o’clock, which is also the time when tailgates start. Drivers are advised to plan their routes accordingly to navigate the road closures effectively.
