‘I’m A Rockstar Now!’ Says Dolly Parton After Being Inducted Into The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame.
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inducted its 2022 class in dramatic style on Saturday night (Nov. 5). Dolly Parton, Eminem, Pat Benatar & Neil Giraldo, Duran Duran, Eurythmics, Lionel Richie, and Carly Simon were among those inducted. Judas Priest and Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis will also be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with the “prize for musical excellence.”
She took the audience through Parton’s pioneering career, particularly as it relates to being a woman in entertainment and in America. P! nk emphasised the songs that speak most to Parton’s universal truths, from “Coat of Many Colors” to “9 to 5,” the latter of which she momentarily sang the chorus.
“[Dolly is] one of the best storytellers of our time… ever,” P!
nk went on.
As Parton approached the stage to claim her award, she and P!
nk, both decked out in glitter, exchanged a heartfelt embrace before Parton remarked, “I’m a rockstar now!”
”
In her own speech, Parton teased her upcoming rock album and even performed an unreleased new rock song… in which she emphatically declares, “I still got rock and roll down in my country soul.”
While a slew of pals assisted in performing hits in Parton’s honour, the concluding sequence of both her set and the night was the greatest, with nearly every inductee — and a few special friends — joining forces for a meandering rendition of “Jolene.”
Six female performers — Benatar, Parton, Simon, Cotten, Robinson, and Annie Lennox (as part of Eurythmics) — will be admitted in one class for the first time in the Hall’s 37-year existence during the 2022 ceremony.
