In ‘Song Association,’ Jewel Performs Two Of Her Hits As Well As Songs By Christina Aguilera, Madonna, And Others.
Jewel hasn’t let her fear of striking out prevent her from participating in the game. At least, that’s how the singer-songwriter approached Tuesday’s (Dec. 20) episode of Elle’s “Song Association.”
Before officially starting the game, the “Foolish Games” singer made it clear that her score would most likely be low. “Hello, my name is Jewel, and I’m going to play a song association game with Elle. I will be given a word and then I will attempt to sing or rap a song associated with that word,” she said, adding, “I don’t know popular music very well. I only know my own songs, so I’m not going to take any chances.”
Jewel warmed up her vocal chords by doing a traditional yodel before saying her first word, which happened to be “torn.” While the singer did not sing out the majority of the lyrics to correspond with Natalie Imbruglia’s version of “Torn,” she did get “I’m all out of faith” and “torn” to gain a point. “Does there exist a close enough score?” she wondered.
The 48-year-old kept up her point streak, scoring one for singing Christina Aguilera’s “Fighter” for the word “fighter” and an extra point for getting the word “soul,” which appears in her 1995 song “Who Will Save Your Soul.” But by the time the word “slow” came up, Jewel had forgotten that she had “Dancing Slow” from her own catalogue to use and thus missed out on a point. She earned a point for “round” by singing “Long Way Around,” and she ended the game with Madonna’s “Material Girl,” which she sang for “material.”
Jewel finished the video with a respectable 13 out of 15 possible points and took to Instagram to share her experience on the show. “Had a great time on @elleus #songassociation… “I was not great, but it’s pretty funny,” she captioned a screenshot from another user’s Instagram Story.
