John Legend Is “Cautiously Optimistic” Regarding Chrissy Teigen’s Pregnancy
John Legend told Good Morning Britain on Friday that he is “cautiously optimistic” about the baby he is expecting with wife Chrissy Teigen (Sept. 23).
The singer of “Ordinary People” described his last miscarriage as a sobering experience.
“When pregnant again after a miscarriage, there is always cautious optimism,” said Legend. “You never know what could happen, and you have lived through the tragedy of losing a loved one… Your optimism is therefore somewhat moderated.”
In September 2020, the couple announced on Instagram the loss of their third child, Jack, at just 20 weeks old. Teigen revealed in the post that she was hospitalised after a month of excessive bleeding. Two years later, Teigen revealed that she had an abortion to save Jack’s life after realising that he would not survive.
Teigen announced on Instagram in August that she was expecting her second child, revealing her new baby bump.
“1 billion shots later (most recently in the leg, as you can see! ), we have another,” Teigen wrote in her photo caption. “At every appointment, I’ve told myself, ‘okay, if it’s healthy today, I’ll make the announcement,’ but after hearing a heartbeat, I decide I’m still too nervous.”
Despite Teigen’s anxiety, there is reason for optimism. According to Legend, so far everything has been wonderful.
Legend released his eighth studio album Legend on September 9 via Republic Records, citing “vulnerability of pain, praise, and healing” as the inspiration for much of the album.
