John Mellen Camp Speaks Out Against Anti-Semitism During Rock Hall Induction: ‘Silence Is Complicity’
Longtime friend and client John Mellencamp took a moment to make his comments matter during the induction of entertainment lawyer Allen Grubman, who has represented artists such as Bruce Springsteen and Mariah Carey.
“I can’t tell you how fucking vital it is to stand out against antisemitism as an artist,” he concluded. “I don’t care what you are, I don’t give an f-k.” Here’s how it works: Silence constitutes complicity. Tonight, I stand here loudly and proudly with Allen, his family, all of my Jewish friends, and all of the Jewish people of the world.”
F-k antisemitism, and f-k anyone who says anything like that.”
Mellencamp’s remarks follow Kanye West’s anti-semitic remarks in recent weeks, which resulted in him being withdrawn from a slew of collaborations.
Grubman received the Ahmet Ertegun Award, together with Jimmy Iovine and Sylvia Robinson.
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony for 2022, which took place this year in Los Angeles, will appear on HBO on November 19.
