Kanye West’s ‘Drink Champs’ Interview With N.O.R.E. Has Been Taken Down From Revolt & YouTube
Following N.O.R.E.’s post-Drink Champs interview with Kanye West apology, the video was removed from YouTube and Revolt.
Backlash erupted following N.O.R.E. and Ye’s interview, with viewers pointing out the controversial rapper’s comments about George Floyd’s murder, and Jewish people “[owning] the Black voice” through Black people wearing a Ralph Lauren shirt, “being signed to a record label, or having a Jewish manager, or being signed to a Jewish basketball team, or doing a movie on a Jewish platform like Disney.”
The nearly 45-minute conversation followed Ye’s attendance at Candace Owens’ film premiere, The Greatest Lie Ever Sold: George Floyd and the Rise of BLM. The premiere appears to have influenced his remarks about Floyd, whose death was ruled a homicide, contrary to Ye’s beliefs.
N.O.R.E. apologised in a conversation with Hot97’s Peter Rosenberg, saying, “Well, the logic was the same way you guys are giving me the platform.” I believe you care about me, that you respect me, and that you believe I should have a say. Ye and I are in a relationship. He would call me when he was going through a lot of the things he was going through, and he would actually listen to me and take my advice. So I felt in command of the situation. I thought I could control the interview, but I quickly discovered that I couldn’t.”
“As a journalist, you’re really not supposed to have an opinion…you’re supposed to let people talk,” the Drink Champs host added. ‘N.O.R.E., you always cut people off!’ is my biggest criticism of Drink Champs. ‘And this is the one time I didn’t cut the people off, and everyone’s mad.”
