Lewis Capaldi’s UK Concert Is Halted After A Fight Breaks Out In The Audience
Lewis Capaldi’s performance at London’s O2 arena was cut short on Wednesday night due to an audience brawl.
The Scottish singer was reportedly midway through his 2019 single “Hold Me While You Wait” when two pit attendees began fighting. “They’re fighting in the throng there. We’ll have to get them out somehow. “We can’t fight,” he declared, according to NME, after signalling the band to stop playing.
“What a strange music to fight to. Strange, strange,” Capaldi remarked after the audience members in question were removed from the venue. At that point, he redirected the evening’s action to the stage by beginning the song — a top five success on the UK chart from his debut album Divinely Inspired to a Hellish Extent — from the beginning.
The deceptively romantic “Pointless” by Capaldi is currently reigning over the U.K. Official Singles Chart (dated Jan. 13), where it narrowly defeated former No. 1 “Escapism” by Raye and 070 Shake. (The top two songs were separated by a total sales margin of only 1,200.)
Meanwhile, “Forget Me,” the track’s 2022 predecessor, was recently nominated for song of the year at the 2023 BRIT Awards, where it will compete against Harry Styles’ “As It Was,” Ed Sheeran and Elton John’s “Merry Christmas,” Sam Smith and Kim Petras’ “Unholy,” and others.
