Martin Duffy Of Primal Scream Died At The Age Of 55.
Martin Duffy, the keyboardist for Primal Scream, died at the age of 55.
Tim Burgess, Duffy’s former bandmate in The Charlatans, confirmed the news on Twitter, writing: “Another tragic loss of a beautiful soul.”
Duffy, who grew up in Birmingham, joined the indie band Felt at the age of 16, and the band went on to sign with Creation Records.
He was then a part of Primal Scream for three decades, progressing from part-time to full-time membership and also appearing on frontman Bobby Gillespie’s 2020 album, ‘Utopian Ashes,’ with Savages’ Jehnny Beth.
Duffy was also well-known for stepping in at the last minute to play with The Charlatans when they supported Oasis at Knebworth.
“Martin Duffy stepped in to save The Charlatans when Rob died – he played with us at Knebworth and was a true friend,” Burgess said in a statement.
“He toured with me in my solo band too – he was a pleasure to spend time with. Duffy, have a safe journey.”
Duffy’s family and Primal Scream have yet to issue an official statement.\
