Michelle Branch has filed for divorce from her husband, Black Keys drummer Patrick Carney

NASHVILLE, TENNESSEE Michelle Branch, the Black Keys’ lead vocalist, has filed for divorce from her husband of three years, Patrick Carney.

Branch, 39, filed a six-page lawsuit in Nashville on Friday, less than twenty-four hours after being detained on a misdemeanour domestic violence charge at the couple’s home.

“The parties are no longer capable of renewing their marriage and living together as husband and wife,” according to court documents.

The “Everywhere” singer is requesting primary custody and child support for her and Carney’s two children. She also requested to be identified as Carney’s life insurance beneficiary, according to court documents.

Branch and Carney, both 42, are required to complete a parenting class as part of the divorce process, and Branch is seeking a court-ordered permanent parenting arrangement.

Branch and Carney representatives have been contacted for comment.

Officers from the Metro Nashville Police Department came to the couple’s home the same day and arrested Branch after she admitted to punching Carney in the face at least once during an episode.

Carney showed no visible symptoms of injury, according to the investigation.

Branch was released on bond of $1,000 on Tuesday.
