Missy Elliott Remembers Writing In “Storyteller Form” For Destiny’s Child’s “Confessions”
Missy Elliott is a four-time Grammy winner and prolific songwriter and producer who has worked with Mariah Carey, Ciara, Mya, and other R&B legends over the last three decades.
On Wednesday (August 31), Elliott took to Twitter to reflect on writing and producing “Confessions” with Destiny’s Child for the girl group’s 1999 sophomore album The Writing’s on the Wall.
“I was just listening to my earlier writing/producing style & I realised I used to paint a picture when writing for the R&B listener I wrote in story teller form [thinking emoji] This Destiny’s Child song was a good example,” Elliott tweeted alongside a snippet of the song, which includes some serious confessions in the lyrics before diving into the chorus: “I was just listening to my earlier writing/producing style & I realised I used to paint a picture when writing for “I’m just confessing about what I did/ I might as well come clean / What did I do?”

The Writing’s on the Wall peaked at No. 5 on the Billboard 200 all-genre albums chart on May 6, 2000, and stayed there for 99 weeks. Destiny’s Child’s most popular songs are included on this album, including “Bills, Bills, Bills,” “Say My Name,” and “Jumpin’, Jumpin’.”
