Nature’s Beauty Or Human Impact: Wildlife Photographer Of The Year People’s Choice Unveils Shortlist
A captivating collection of images has been shortlisted for the Wildlife Photographer of the Year People’s Choice award, providing viewers with a profound choice. Will they opt for a snapshot reflecting the pristine beauty of the natural world, or one that unveils the potentially devastating impact of human activities on the environment?
Public Participation in Prestige
In a unique twist, the Wildlife Photographer of the Year contest invites the global audience to participate in the decision-making process. Wildlife photography enthusiasts worldwide are encouraged to cast their votes for the People’s Choice Award. The selection features 25 exceptional images, curated by the Natural History Museum in London and an esteemed international judging panel.
A Glimpse into Nature’s Wonders
The chosen images, meticulously selected from a staggering 49,957 entries across 95 countries, encompass a diverse array of wildlife moments. Among them are a pair of seemingly kissing hares, a serene polar bear resting on an iceberg, and a majestic grizzly bear standing upright in a shimmering lake.
Beyond Aesthetic Beauty
Beyond aesthetic appeal, some photographs shine a spotlight on the negative impact of human activities on the natural world. Instances include a young fox dining on an overflowing trash can in London and a male elephant navigating through a heap of rubbish.
Voting and Recognition
Voting for the People’s Choice Award is open online until January 31, offering participants the opportunity to contribute to the selection of the winner. The announcement of the victor and the top four images is scheduled for February, and these outstanding photographs will be displayed both online and in the in-person exhibition at the Natural History Museum.
A Call to Environmental Awareness
The Wildlife Photographer of the Year initiative aligns with the broader environmental awareness campaign, “Call to Earth,” by CNN. This series is dedicated to reporting on environmental challenges and solutions, with the support of Rolex’s Perpetual Planet initiative in collaboration with CNN.
