Lewis Capaldi performed in the streets of Dublin this week while on vacation in Ireland with Niall Horan, a longtime friend and occasional touring companion. Niall Horan is currently a member of the boy band One Direction.

Yesterday afternoon (August 6), the duo performed a brief, unannounced set of acoustic jams with local busker Jacob Koopman on Grafton Street, one of Dublin’s two main shopping lanes. Billboard reports that Koopman is familiar with Capaldi’s work after covering “Before You Go” in July, which appears on Capaldi’s 2019 album “Divinely Uninspired To A Hellish Extent.”( Niall Horan and Lewis Capaldi )

Given that Grafton Street is one of Dublin’s two main shopping streets, it’s not surprising that Horan’s 2017 single “Slow Hands” and a cover of Coldplay’s 2000 smash hit “Yellow” were both included in the brief, unannounced set.

Last month, it was revealed that Capaldi has yet to finish work on his second album because he is “horribly lazy.” This summer, the Scottish singer-songwriter returned to live performance, appearing at festivals such as Parklife, TRNSMT, Isle of Wight, and Latitude. During his most recent performance, he said to the audience, “I just want to say now, I have no new music to play you.” Last year, I had to reschedule many shows because I kept telling my fans, “Guys, I need to finish my new album.” And I’m the one who was supposed to do it, but I’m so unmotivated.”

Capaldi was scheduled to perform at Latitude 2021, but he canceled all of his live dates for that year in order to “put all of my effort into making the best [second] album I can.” Bastille frontman Dan Smith confirmed in December 2017 that he and Peter Capaldi had worked together on the follow-up to 2016’s “Divinely Uninspired.”

“I think he’s just taking his time writing music and living his life,” he explained. I think he’s just taking his time. “We are so proud of Lewis and his worldwide success that we can’t stop talking about him. I’m curious to see what he does next.

The next stop on Capaldi’s tour will be in Scarborough on Thursday, August 11, and the schedule for the following year includes six more performances.
