Nicki Minaj’s New Single Unleashes The ‘Super Freaky Girl’ Within
Nicki Minaj unleashed her strange side on the world on Friday with the release of her new single, “Super Freaky Girl” (Aug. 12).
This song, which features a sample from Rick James’ 1981 hit “Super Freak,” was released alongside a TikTok dance challenge created by user @lorddroman.
“I can lick it, I can ride it while you slippin’ and slidin’ / I can do all ’em little tricks, and keep the d— up inside it / You can smack it, grip it, go down and kiss it / And every time he leaves me alone, he always tells me he misses it,” Minaj raps over the instantly recognizable riff from the throwback sample.
Minaj will be honored with the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award and will perform onstage for the first time since 2018 at the 2022 MTV Video Music Awards, which will be held at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, and broadcast live on television. Minaj is the fourth rapper to receive the honor, following LL Cool J in 1997, Kanye West in 2015, and Missy Elliott in 2016. (2019). That year, The Beastie Boys, an influential rap group that branched out into alternative music, were honored. “Do We Have a Problem,” a collaboration between Minaj and Lil Baby has been nominated for best hip-hop video at this year’s Video Music Awards.
