‘Older,’ By George Michael, Tops The Midweek UK Albums Chart.
With Older, George Michael is set to make a posthumous return to the top of the UK chart (via Sony Music CG).
The former Wham member tops the midweek chart with his 1996 album, which is getting a reissue treatment, including its first vinyl release.
Older, Michael’s third solo album, debuted at No. 1 on the Official UK Chart upon its initial release, and spawned two UK chart-topping singles, “Jesus To A Child” and “Fastlove.”
Michael had a successful recording career, first with the 1980s pop duo Wham and then as a solo artist, yielding seven No. 1 singles and as many best-selling albums. He passed away on Christmas Day, December 25, 2016, at the age of 53.
Slipknot’s The End So Far is No. 2 on the Official Chart Update (Roadrunner). It’s the follow-up to 2019’s chart-topper We Are Not Your Kind, and it’s trailing Older by less than 2,500 copies at the halfway point, according to the Official Charts Company. This week’s most downloaded title has been We Are Not Your Kind.
Craig David returns with his eighth studio album 22 (BMG), new at No. 4, in a midweek top 10 flush with new releases, while US indie-rock veterans the Yeah Yeah Yeahs are ready for a return to the top tier with Cool It Down (Secretly Canadian), new at No. 5.
Close behind is Bjork’s comeback single, Fossora (One Little Independent), which debuted at No. 6 and could earn the veteran Icelandic artist her first U.K. top 10 since Volta in 2007 — 15 years ago.
Finally, alternative rock legends Pixies could score a seventh top 10 LP with Doggerel (Infectious Music), which debuted at No. 7 on the chart blast, while alternative pop act Shakespears Sister is on track for a chart return with their second album Hormonally Yours (London Music Livestream), which debuted at No. 3 in 1992. Hormonally Yours’ 30th anniversary edition debuts at No. 8 on the midweek chart.
