Ricky Martin, Kid Cudi, Daddy Yankee, And Others Celebrate Argentina’s Victory Over France in the 2022 World Cup Final
Argentina’s thrilling victory over France in the 2022 World Cup final in Qatar is being celebrated by musicians all over the world.
Artists such as Ricky Martin, Kid Cudi, Daddy Yankee, Niall Horan, and others took to social media on Sunday (Dec. 18) to express their delight over the thrilling match at Lusail Stadium, in which Argentina defeated France on penalties.
“God. This was insane!! Congratulations!!” Martin, dressed in a blue and white Argentina jersey, captioned an Instagram video of himself celebrating the victory.
“WHAT A FOOTBALL GAME!! “Congratulations Argentina,” former One Direction member Niall Horan wrote on Twitter.
Argentina defeated reigning men’s champion France in one of the most dramatic World Cup games in history. Argentina won the game on penalties after a 3-3 tie after extra time.
Other musicians celebrated soccer legend Lionel Messi’s first World Cup victory. During the final game, the legendary player scored two goals, one of which came in the 108th minute.
Marshmello, the producer of “Messi Messi Messi,” tweeted.
“Wow #ArgentinaVsFrance what a match!” Boy George tweeted. “I’m sad for France, but I’m proud of #Messi.”
After watching the dramatic match, Cudi expressed his enthusiasm for the sport. “I’ve never watched soccer before, but this is— LIT,” the rapper-actor wrote on Twitter.
A wave of artists took over the soccer field at the Lusail Stadium hours before the final match for an energetic closing ceremony. The 10-minute set included a mashup of songs from the official FIFA music soundtrack, as well as a duet with American-Nigerian artist Davido and Qatari singer Aisha singing “(Hayya Hayya) Better Together.” Ozuna, a Puerto Rican singer, and Gims, a French-Congolese rapper, joined the artists for an upbeat rendition of “Arhbo.” The ceremony concluded with the full female lineup performing “Light the Sky.”
Following that, Argentine star Lali Esposito took the field to sing the Argentine national anthem before the match.
“This is the biggest thing I could have ever dreamed of,” she wrote in an Instagram post that received over 2 million likes.
