Salt-N-Pepa are the most recent celebrities to be honoured with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce announced on Tuesday (Oct. 25) that the MCs will be honoured with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in the category of Recording.
This upcoming star ceremony honouring Hip-Hop pioneers SaltN-Pepa will pay tribute to the incredible 80s music we all love and grew up with!” Ana Martinez, Walk of Fame Producer, stated in a news release. “We’re putting these hip hop royalty next to Amoeba Music and right next to another Queen of Hip Hop, Missy Elliott’s Walk of Fame star!”
Cheryl James (Salt) and Sandra Denton (Pepa) formed the group in 1985, and since then, they’ve achieved numerous feats such as three No. 1s on Billboard’s Hot Rap Songs chart, five albums on the Billboard 200, and winning the Grammy for best rap performance by a duo or group in 1995, making them the first women in rap to do so.
Furthermore, their smash “Push It” was the first rap song by a female artist to reach the top 40 of the Billboard Hot 100, finally reaching No. 19.
