Sam Smith And Kim Petras’ BRIT Awards 2023 Performance Sparks Controversy
Over 100 complaints were filed against Sam Smith’s performance at the BRIT Awards in 2023, according to broadcasting regulator Ofcom.
Kim Petras performed a duet of their smash hit “Unholy” at the Grammys after being accused of promoting Satanism with their appearance.
Smith and Petras wore leather and all black onstage, as if they were performing in a seedy garage. The two started rapping as Smith sat on the back of the motorcycle and Petras emerged from under the car to begin their duet.
At least 106 viewers complained to Ofcom about the performance, though it’s unclear what they were upset about.
Offensive language and excessive drinking were also mentioned as reasons for dissatisfaction with the BRITs 2023.
Smith and Petras went on to perform at the BRIT Awards after being accused of performing a Satanic ritual at the Grammys, which they denied. As conservative commentator Liz Wheeler put it, you shouldn’t get involved in the culture wars. Meanwhile, demonic forces are instilling Satan worship in your children. I’m feeling sick.
Smith wore a horned red hat for the performance, and Petras danced in a cage surrounded by dancers wielding whips in the background, while flames flickered in the background.
Later, the Church of Satan chimed in, claiming that the show was “nothing particularly special.” “It’s sad when politicians use someone’s religion as a punchline on a national stage,” said Magister David Harris.
Smith’s BRIT Awards red carpet ensemble, a black rubber suit with oversized shoulders and legs, was the subject of a Ricky Gervais joke, which elicited mixed reactions from fans. The comic superimposed his own head on Smith’s body, implying that Smith was doing so to gain attention.
The loss of personal space is, without a doubt, the most unpleasant aspect of celebrity. “I can’t even walk down the street without people looking and pointing,” he captioned the tweet.
