The rest of Shawn Mendes’ world tour was canceled a month ago due to mental health issues, and the singer has since provided fans with a brief update, telling them that he is “just taking it easy.”

Mendes postponed a three-week run of shows in North America at the beginning of July, citing his mental health as the reason. “I’ve been touring since I was 15 years old, and to tell you the truth, it’s always been difficult to be on the road away from friends and family,” he wrote in an open letter shared on social media.

The remaining 87 dates of his 10-month-long “Wonder” world tour were eventually canceled by the Canadian singer-songwriter. He explained his decision at the end of the previous month, saying he “wasn’t prepared for the toll that being back on the road would take.”

A TMZ paparazzi spotted Mendes at LAX yesterday, exactly two weeks after our last report, and approached him for an on-the-spot interview (August 10). Mendes discussed his recent activities in a brief statement, saying, “I’m taking a lot of time just doing therapy.” Mendes revealed some personal details about his recent activities after initially refusing to speak with the photographer (he said, “just waiting for my car, man”).

Mendes elaborated after being asked if he had been up to “anything fun.” “I’m not doing anything out of the ordinary, man. I’ve been trying to make up for not being able to spend as much time as I would like with my family by spending more time with them. For me, it’s mostly about spending time doing things I haven’t done in a long time, such as going out to dinner with friends and trying new restaurants.

Mendes had already performed at seven of the tour’s stops before deciding to cancel the remaining dates. The remaining 47 shows on his North American tour were scheduled for later this year, while the 32 shows in the United Kingdom and Europe were scheduled for May and August of the following year.

Mendes recently assured his fans that “this doesn’t mean I won’t be making new music, and I can’t wait to see you on tour in the future.” While Mendes did not specify whether or not the canceled shows would be rescheduled, he did state that “this does not mean I won’t be making new music.” Later, he reaffirmed his intention to resume touring “as soon as [he] has taken the necessary time to heal.”
