‘SNL’ Season 48 Premiere: Kendrick Lamar Flawlessly Performs ‘Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers’ Tracks: Watch
Kendrick Lamar is back at Studio 8H.
On Oct. 1, the superstar rapper helped kick off the 48th season of Saturday Night Live, performing flawless performances from his latest chart-topping album, Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers.
Lamar chose minimalistic visuals and used lighting and shadow effects for his first performance on the Miles Teller-hosted SNL episode, expertly delivering the set’s “Rich Spirit” and “N95.” Later in the show, he returned for an emotional rendition of “Father Time” with singer-songwriter Sampha. Lamar’s stage design this time featured the sparse living conditions seen on his recent album cover.
Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers, the Compton rapper’s first album in five years, debuted at the top of the Billboard 200 in late May, earning him his fourth No. 1 on the chart.
This was Lamar’s third appearance on SNL as a musical guest, following appearances in 2013 and 2018. He is the season’s eighth musical guest, following Public Enemy, Eminem, Nelly, Kanye West, Lil Wayne, Jay-Z, and Megan Thee Stallion.
SNL returns on October 8th, with Irish actor and director Brendan Gleeson hosting and Willow performing as a musical guest.
