Snoop Dogg Emerges As MVP Of WrestleMania
Snoop Dogg proved that he can do more than just rap when he saved the day at WrestleMania 39. The iconic rapper stepped in at the last second to take over a match after wrestler Shane McMahon tore his quad. McMahon had been in his first WWE event in 14 months, and Snoop Dogg was co-hosting the event with wrestler Mike “The Miz” Mizanin. Snoop Dogg’s entertaining performance made him the Most Valuable Performer of the event.
The weekend also saw WWE set a two-night attendance record, with 161,892 people attending both days at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California. This is the first WrestleMania in Los Angeles since 2005, and it is expected to generate record gate and sponsorship revenue when final figures are announced.
However, the event also reignited rumors of a possible sale of WWE to UFC owner Endeavor. Although CNBC reported that the two sides were nearing an agreement, WWE’s head of creative, Paul “Triple H” Levesque, did not comment on the reports.
Another highlight of the event was Roman Reigns remaining the undisputed champion. Despite Cody Rhodes having all the momentum going into the match, Reigns continued his 900-day-plus reign as champion. He is expected to become the first WWE wrestler to reach 1,000 days as champion in early June.
The event also featured a number of celebrities who stepped into the ring and impressed WWE fans. Social media star Logan Paul participated in a WrestleMania match for the second straight year, while San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle and rapper Bad Bunny also made appearances. WWE’s head of creative, Paul “Triple H” Levesque, praised the celebrities for their dedication to the sport and for raising the bar for everyone else.
In addition to his co-hosting duties with “The Miz,” Snoop Dogg also drove Rey Mysterio out to the stage in a lowrider before his match against son Dominik Mysterio. Bad Bunny, who took part in a tag team match at WrestleMania two years ago, will host WWE’s next premium live event on May 6 in San Juan, Puerto Rico. He may also take part in a match that night.
