Superman Soars To New Heights: Comic Makes Auction History
A rare comic book featuring Superman’s first appearance fetched a record-breaking $6 million at auction on Thursday, April 4th, in Dallas. Hosted by Heritage Auctions, the sale marks a significant milestone in the world of comic collectibles, surpassing all previous records.
New Record Shatters Previous High
This landmark sale dethrones the previous record holder, also a Superman comic – Superman #1, which sold for $5.3 million in 2022. The dominance of Superman comics at the top of the charts is further emphasized by the 2021 sale of Amazing Fantasy #15, featuring Spider-Man’s debut, for $3.6 million.
Industry Experts React to the Sale
“Thursday was a historic day for a historic comic,” stated Barry Sandoval, vice president of Heritage Auctions, according to Penta magazine. “We expected nothing less.” Sandoval’s comments reflect the significance of the event for the comic book industry.
