SZA Makes A Joking Comparison To Drake George: ‘Have You Or Anyone You Know Been A Victim Of Personal Victimization?’
SZA spoke out about Drake in a new interview on Friday (Dec. 9) following the rapper’s womanising ways being mocked on Saturday Night Live.
The sketch, which aired last Saturday (Dec. 3), featured host Keke Palmer and a slew of female SNL cast members launching “United Tingz of Aubrey,” a class-action lawsuit on behalf of Drake’s exes, former flings, and random women who have served as inspiration for his music. The irony is that SZA, who performed as the episode’s musical guest, is one of the Honestly, Nevermind rapper’s ex-girlfriends.
“In a strange way, I was like, ‘Did they know?'” she explained during a conversation with Audacy. “But they didn’t ask me to be a part of it.” Nothing was said… Drake has a Regina George quality to him, as if he’s asking, ‘Have you or anyone you know been personally victimised?’ You know, he’s like a cool kid. It’s entertaining when you’re the popular kid at school. It’s entertaining, but you’re sometimes losing money while you’re having fun. I appreciate your candour. But I definitely burst out laughing… “I laughed.”
SZA first revealed she and Drake were dating in the late 2000s when he mentioned her in “Mr. Right Now,” his 2020 collaboration with 21 Savage and Metro Boomin. Despite finding humour in the SNL sketch, the R&B singer insisted she is now at peace with her superstar ex.
“We’re fine. And we’ve always kept it cool,” she added. “It’s never been strange. When he informed me, it wasn’t completely unexpected. I had no idea it was a song with 21 [Savage] or anything. But whenever he’s mentioned me, it’s always been in a positive light. He has never said anything bad about me. That makes me happy. I have high regard for him… “His name is King Drake.”
SZA released her long-awaited sophomore album, SOS, the same day the interview aired, more than five years after her 2017 debut, Ctrl.
