The 2022 Super Bowl Halftime Show Will Feature Twelve Minutes Of Hip-Hop History (And May Well Win An Emmy)

The halftime show has a chance to make history by winning a top program Emmy for the first time if it is named Outstanding Variety Special (Live) for The Pepsi Super Bowl LVI Halftime Show Featuring Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Mary J. Blige, Eminem, Kendrick Lamar, and 50 Cent on Saturday, September 3 at the Creative Arts Emmys.

“It was one of the greatest Super Bowl halftime shows ever,” Hamilton, 56, said. They had a seismic impact on music, culture, and beyond, and for the first time, they’re all on the same Super Bowl bill. Oh, and by the way, it’s [near] Compton, where some of this began, where Dr. Dre began; this is literally his backyard.” ” The home team has an obvious advantage in the championship.” This Los Angeles hip-hop Super Bowl will never be repeated. From the start, Dr. Dre’s Compton studio was packed with extras.

For his work on the halftime show, Blackstone, 40, has been nominated for an Emmy for outstanding music direction. This is his third nomination in total, and it’s for a show he also directed, making him a triple threat.
According to Blackstone, this year’s halftime show touched people all over the world. “Right now, our world is going through a lot,” he says. “Everyone was overjoyed to see that everyone was having a good time.” Individuals enjoyed being in the company of others. We can’t deny that seeing local heroes honored in Los Angeles was pretty cool.
I’m proud to have contributed to the fact that many children, particularly children of color, can see the possibilities of where they can go and who they can become. I doubt Dr. Dre and Snoop would have imagined playing on a stage as grand as that in their wildest childhood fantasies. I want to make a difference in the world by inspiring the next generation, including my own, to follow in the footsteps of great leaders.

When directing the show’s music, Blackstone puts himself in the shoes of the audience. I try to direct musical performances in the manner in which I would like to see them. What song would I listen to if I could listen to any song? Which catalog would be the most useful in this limited time?
He enjoys the challenge of Super Bowls. Having the chance to work with such talented artists is something I always look forward to. This one has special meaning for me because I heard it frequently throughout my childhood.
He points out that, unlike most previous Super Bowl halftime shows, which were usually highlights from their tour set lists, this year’s performance is entirely unique. We have no plans to travel. That will not happen again. This is a one-of-a-kind event, and it also happens to be the world’s largest. Implementation accuracy was critical. I hope it receives the flowers it deserves.

Hamilton received a Grammy nomination.
Hamilton is up against the Super Bowl halftime show for the best variety special at the 64th Annual Grammy Awards, for which he is nominated for an Emmy (live). As a director, I was blown away by the incredible opportunities afforded by COVID’s constraints and requirements. I’ve appeared as a performer at nearly every major music festival on the planet. So, when the Grammys call, you want to respond in a way that is unique, magical, and makes a genuine difference. You want to make it your own, and as a person with a lot of energy, I did. COVID initially concerned me because of my lack of energy.

Then I realized that as Grammy’s director, I would have access that no other director had ever had. So we focused on the art world’s closeness and camaraderie.
The Year of the Blackstone
The Super Bowl kicked off Blackstone’s perfect year, which will continue through the Academy Awards in March and conclude with the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony in November. Blackstone is attending both the Oscars and the Rock Hall ceremony for the third time, but this is his first time as the event’s music director.
Eminem will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame this year, providing Blackstone with a hip-hop icon to celebrate all year.
The following month, Empire Records will release Legacy, the first album Blackstone has ever recorded. He co-wrote and produced each of the songs.
