To Ring In The New Year, Cardi B Performs A Cover Of A Fall Out Boy Classic
Cock it and pull it, a loaded god complex! Cardi B rang in the New Year by covering Fall Out Boy’s seminal hit “Sugar We’re Goin’ Down” on Saturday (Dec. 31).
The superstar’s delightfully emo moment occurred during her performance to ring in 2023 at Miami’s E11EVEN nightclub. Cardi excitedly launched into the 2005 single in a fan-captured TikTok video, holding a drink in one hand and a microphone in the other. “Anything you want to hear/ But that’s just who I am this week/ Lying in bed/ Next to the mausoleum,” she wailed a capella as the audience sang along enthusiastically.
“Cardi b singing Fall Out Boy first thing after midnight on New Year’s Day is exactly how I wanted to start my year,” a TikTok user wrote on the video, which also features Offset on stage, performing to a different section of the packed audience.
“Sugar We’re Goin Down,” released as the lead single from 2005’s From Under the Cork Tree, was the foursome’s breakout hit, becoming their first top 10 smash and eventually peaking at No. 8 on the Hot 100. (The pop-punk anthem also charted at No. 3 on Alternative Airplay and No. 2 on Pop Airplay.)
Cardi’s admiration for Pete Wentz and co. coincides with a tweet she sent earlier this fall in which she expressed her admiration for the “emo kids” at her high school who were “actually really cool and will give me free cigarettes.”
