“Get rid of the conference and G-league,” Staples emphasized, criticizing the current setup for limiting viewership and deeming the Pacific Championship irrelevant. He attributed these moves as attempts to capitalize on financial gains rather than genuine fan engagement.
The Debate: Should Conferences and G-League Stay?
Since the 1970s, the NBA has maintained two conferences to organize teams from the western and eastern sides of North America. This system aims to determine the best teams from each region, streamlining the playoffs.
While Vince Staples opposes this concept, arguing against its relevance with 30 teams, some argue that maintaining conferences is crucial for organizational purposes.
As for the G-League, which serves as the NBA’s development league, Staples questions its necessity. Although it provides an opportunity for late-drafted rookies and aspiring athletes, the uncertainty of transitioning to the main roster raises doubts about itscontinued existence.
