Watch Kelly Clarkson Slow It Down For Alec Benjamin’s ‘Kellyoke’ Cover:
Kelly Clarkson opened Friday’s (Oct. 14) episode of The Kelly Clarkson Show with a lovely and mellow rendition of Alec Benjamin’s 2018 Billboard Hot 100 hit “Let Me Down Slowly,” featuring Alessia Cara, for “Kellyoke.”
Clarkson received a standing ovation from the audience for her powerful vocals on the cover.
“Let Me Down Slowly” is Benjamin’s lone Hot 100 hit, peaking at No. 79 and appearing on his 2018 mixtape Narrate for You. The song, according to the Arizona native, depicts his first relationship. “I wanted to talk about one moment where I felt particularly vulnerable, which I don’t think many people talk about,” he told Billboard in 2018.

Benjamin collaborated with Cara after the singer expressed interest in the song on Twitter. “I emailed her my phone number. ‘Would you like to do a verse?’ I asked. “She sent me a voice memo she recorded at home two days later,” Benjamin explained. “You can record her voice on an iPhone and it will sound just as good.” She added some really cool harmonies, and her perspective gave the song new meaning.”
