Rema’s ‘Calm Down’ Remix with Selena Gomez Makes It To The Hot 100 For The First Time

Rema’s single “Calm Down,” which was recently remixed with co-lead Selena Gomez, debuts at No. 91 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart (dated September 17).
According to Luminate, the song, released by Jonzing World/Mavin/SMG Music/Virgin/Interscope Records, has 5.5 million U.S. streams (up 12%), 763,000 radio airplay audience (up 16%), and 1,000 downloads sold in the Sept. 2-8 tracking week (all versions combined). It also rises 19-11 on the Billboard Global Excl. US chart, with 39.3 million streams worldwide (up 19%), and 25-15 on the Billboard Global 200.
The original version of the song, written by the 22-year-old Benin City, Nigeria native (real name: Divine Ikubor), was released in February as the second single from his debut solo LP, Rave & Roses. The remix with Gomez was released on August 26, and the official video premiered on September 7.
Rema debuted on a Billboard chart in July 2020 with his single “Woman,” which peaked at No. 15 on the World Digital Song Sales chart. He then had two hits on Hot Dance/Electronic Songs: “Simple Things,” with DJDS and Tory Lanez, peaked at No. 50 in July 2020, and “Jealousy,” with FKA Twigs and Rema, peaked at No. 13 in January.
Rema has also maintained a consistent presence on Billboard’s Afrobeats Songs chart in the United States. He has logged 12 entries since the list’s inception in April, tying him with Tems for the second-most among all acts, after Burna Boy (27). “Calm Down” earned him his first No. 1 on the chart when it debuted on the September 10-dated survey.
In April, Rave & Roses debuted and peaked at Nos. 6 and 7 on Heatseekers Albums and World Albums, respectively. Chris Brown, 6LACK, AJ Tracey, and Yseult make appearances on the album. He has also collaborated with Jason Derulo, Mahalia, Skepta, and Justine Skye.
