Billboard Latin Music Awards: Who Won Best New Artist and Where Are They Now?
The 2022 Billboard Latin Music Awards, for which Bad Bunny has been nominated 23 times, are less than a week away, taking place Thursday, Sept. 29, at the Watsco Canter in Miami and airing live on Telemundo at 7 p.m. ET.
This year, five emerging Latin acts (all of whom are regional Mexican artists) have been named finalists in one of the most exciting categories — artist of the year, new. Newcomers Ivan Cornejo, Los Gemelos de Sinaloa, Los Lara, Luis R. Conriquez, and Yahritza y Su Esencia are up for the award.
In honour of the prestigious awards ceremony, which coincides with Billboard’s annual Latin Music Week, the single largest and most important gathering of the Latin music industry, which takes place Sept. 26-Oct. 1, we’ve compiled a list of all of the best new artist winners in Billboard Latin Music Awards history. (Note: Although the first Billboard Latin Music Awards were held in 1994, this award has only been given since the 2010 edition.)
La Adictiva (2012)
What happened to them? La Adictiva celebrated its 30th anniversary as a group in 2020, telling Billboard that “singing romantic songs is a formula that has worked for us.” The Regional Mexican group recently released their cover of “Cielito Lindo,” which has 12 No. 1 hits on the Regional Mexican Airplay chart.
