Ice Cube Explains Why The Next ‘Friday’ Movie Has Not Yet Been Released
Ice Cube’s Friday After Next, the third instalment in his Friday film series, was released nearly 20 years ago. In a Drink Champs podcast episode recorded at L.L. Cool J’s Rock The Bells festival, Cube explains the reason for the delay.
Cube stated that two of his film scripts were rejected by Warner Bros. In the original script, Craig (Ice Cube) and Da Da (Mike Epps) were imprisoned for selling marijuana.
“That’s hilarious,” Ice Cube said. ” They made a number of films about incarceration after rejecting it. “Man, you guys really f—ed me over,” I thought. The other script was about the youth in the neighbourhood feuding with the OGs, and Craig needed to return to put an end to it. “The new Deebo is Smoky’s [Chris Tucker’s] son, and he’s wilding.”
When discussing the deaths of several prominent Friday characters, including John Witherspoon, who portrayed Cube’s father in the films, Lister, who portrayed Deebo, and A.J. Johnson, who portrayed Ezal, Cube added that Warner Bros. “tripped on it.”
When asked if Tucker would star in another film, Cube stated that the comedian and actor has not expressed a strong desire to do another Friday. “Chris is slick,” Cube said. However, Chris and I are fine.
Cube concluded, “Once again, another Warner Bros. screw-up,” in reference to his other notable projects, such as the 2002 film All About the Benjamins and his 1998 hit film The Players Club.
