Austin Butler Dresses As The Green Goblin For A ‘Saturday Night Live’ Promotion
Austin Butler is getting ready for his big debut. Not as Elvis (he already played the rock ‘n’ roll icon in a biopic this summer), but as a first-time Saturday Night Live host.
The long-running comedy show released the first teaser for Butler’s episode on Wednesday (Dec. 14), giving fans a small taste of what they can expect.
Butler began the 35-second clip by walking toward the show’s famous stage, exhaling an excited sigh and saying, “Here we go,” before surveying the space. A soft breeze blows through his golden blond hair as he walks up to the stage, and a twinkle appears in his eye — but the illusion is broken when a stage hand interrupts his fantasy.
“You’ll be the Christmas goblin in this sketch,” the stage hand informs the actor. A separate stage hand applies a hideous mask with a big red Santa hat on top to Butler’s face, but he remains calm and collected. “Let’s do it,” he says, his mask on and hands on his hips.
Butler’s hosting gig is his first on the show, but Saturday’s musical guest Lizzo is a veteran with two previous SNL appearances. Lizzo made her debut in December 2019 with a holiday-themed rendition of “Good as Hell,” and she returned last season in April, hosting and performing “About Damn Time” and “Special.”
