Cherry Valentine, A ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race UK’ Contestant, Has Died At The Age Of 28.

George Ward, better known as Cherry Valentine on RuPaul’s Drag Race UK, passed away on September 18. He was 28 years old at the time.

Ward’s agency, On the Box Talent, announced his death on Thursday via a statement from his family (Sept. 22). “It is with the deepest sadness that we inform you that our George – Cherry Valentine – has tragically passed away,” a statement posted to Instagram alongside a photo of Ward reads. “Most people will be taken aback, and we understand there is no easy way to break the news.” We are still processing his death as his family, and our lives will never be the same. We recognise how much he is adored and how many lives he has inspired and touched. All we ask is for your patience and prayers during this difficult time. Georgie, we adore you.”

Ward’s cause of death remains unknown to the general public.

Ward worked as a mental health nurse before joining Drag Race, and during the COVID-19 pandemic, he worked in vaccination units. Cherry Valentine rose to prominence on the sophomore season of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK in 2021, and while she was eliminated on the second episode, she quickly became a fan favourite.

RuPaul took to Twitter after hearing the news to remember Cherry as “a bright star and a lovely person.” Michelle Visage, who sits on the Drag Race judges panel with RuPaul, also paid tribute on Instagram. “Cherry, you lovely soul. “After watching your documentary, my eyes were opened, and I learned so much, and I thank you for that, and for teaching me,” she wrote alongside a photo of the actress. “I’m sorry you had any doubts about who you were because you were perfect to me.” I only wish you were here to instruct me further. You were unique, with a laugh as big as your heart. This is absolutely heartbreaking. Rest in peace, superstar.”
