‘It’ll Move You Emotionally,’ Says The Quintanilla Family of Selena’s New Album ‘Moonchild Mixes;

Selena Quintanilla was only 13 when she recorded “Como Te Quiero Yo A Ti,” a pop ballad about unrequited love. But what can a teen Selena possibly know about heartbreak? None at that age. However, thanks to her father’s singing lessons, she was able to belt out these heartfelt and mature lyrics.

“Como Te Quiero Yo A Ti” is a previously unreleased song that debuted and peaked at No. 6 on the Billboard Latin Digital Song Sales chart on August 13. The song was the first single from Selena’s new album Moonchild Mixes, which was released today (Aug. 26) by Warner Music Latina and features 10 of Selena’s original recordings between the ages of 13 and 16. 37 years later, the songs are being released.
“We as a family had discussed that in the future, after Selena’s passing, we would maintain her presence through her music, and we’ve done that for 27 years,” Mr. Quintanilla explains. “I’m confident that the fans will enjoy it because listening to it will move you emotionally and transport you back to the time when Selena was recording it this morning.”
A.B. Quintanilla III, Selena’s brother and longtime producer, removed Selena’s vocals from the original tracks and worked on the music to bring it up to date with today’s musical trends. “We worked on her voice to make her sound more mature, like she did before she died,” Mr. Quintanilla says.
But, more than just recently going into the studio to work on songs from nearly four decades ago, working on this set brought the Quintanilla family tender and unforgettable memories.

Selena was not initially involved in the writing or music. Suzette Quintanilla, her sister and former Los Dinos drummer, recalls, “We were just excited to be at the recording studio.” “You have to remember that we were young.” Selena was 13 years old. Finally, once the final mix was complete, it was always thrilling to listen to it. We have so many memories from our childhood, but that one stands out. Selena was always the last person to lay down the track and add her vocals, and when she mixed it, it was like ‘wow!’ That was the first time we were able to take it all in.”
“Of course, it brings up a lot of emotions because it reminds us of when we first started.” Of course, the loss of her will never be forgotten,” Mr. Quintanilla adds. “We remember a lot of fun times travelling from town to town, doing shows, and working in the studio.” It was fantastic because it involved the entire family. As we age, everyone will realise and realise that, at the end of the day, it’s all about family.”

Moonchild Mixes (named after Selena’s Greek name, “Goddess of the Moon,” and her design house, Moonchild) is the result of a family dedicated to honouring their daughter and sister’s memory and legacy. The album, which includes brand new tracks such as “Dame Tu Amor,” “No Llores Mas,” “Cario Mio,” and “Sabes,” to name a few, is also a gift for fans, particularly those who are just discovering her music.
“I think the beauty of Selena was that she was more than just an artist.” She was very caring and loving, and she was honest in her interviews. “She was an excellent performer who could captivate you,” Suzette says. “I believe those are the reasons Selena is still relevant today.” I believe that as Latinos growing up, we didn’t have many role models to look up to, and I believe that the younger generation is looking for that, and I believe Selena is a fantastic representation.”
