Kelly Clarkson Channels Her Inner Country Balladeer With Trisha Yearwood’s ‘Kellyoke’
Kelly Clarkson channelled her inner Trisha Yearwood on The Kelly Clarkson Show on Tuesday (Oct. 25), belting out “How Do I Live” for her latest Kellyoke musical act.
“How am I going to get through one night without you?” What kind of life would I have if I had to live without you?/ Oh, and I, I need you in my arms, I need you to hold/ You’re my world, my heart, my soul/ If you ever leave/ Baby, you’d take away everything good in my life/ And tell me now/ How do I live without you?” she sang, dressed in a yellow maxi dress printed with blue flowers and her hair up in a high pony.
Yearwood and LeAnn Rimes both recorded the ballad in the late 1990s, and both versions were published on May 23, 1997. While Yearwood’s interpretation was included in the action film Con Air, Rimes’ recording exceeded its twin on the charts, reaching at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 behind Elton John’s “Candle in the Wind 1997” and setting a record for lasting 69 consecutive weeks on the chart at the time. Six songs have since eclipsed that mark, with Glass Animals’ “Heat Waves” just being proclaimed the new record-holder at 91 weeks (and counting).
Clarkson has covered Yearwood on her talk show before: earlier this month, she covered 1991’s “That’s What I Like About You,” and last year, she covered 1993’s “Walkaway Joe.” Yearwood and her husband, Garth Brooks, have also appeared on the show several times.
