Kelly Clarkson’s Cover Of Chris De Burgh’s “Looking For A Little Romance” Shows That She Is Looking For Love
“The Lady in Red” by Chris de Burgh was the first song Kelly Clarkson sang on her talk show on Thursday, January 19.
Her house band backed her up. “Never seen you look so beautiful as you did tonight/Never seen you shine so bright/Never seen so many men ask you if you wanted to dance/They’re looking for a little romance, given half a chance/I have never seen that dress you’re wearing/Or the highlights in your hair catch your eyes, I have been blind/Lady in red/Is dancing with me, cheek to cheek.”
As the second single from de Burgh’s 1986 album Into the Light, the ballad was the British-Irish singer’s big break on the international scene. It reached No. 1 all over the world, but in the spring of 1987, it peaked at No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100.
After singing the song, Clarkson asked Breaking Bad star Bryan Cranston to sit on the couch. She then showed him a video dating service ad he made in the 1980s that had just been found. Rita Wilson then joined them to talk about the “sing for your supper” parties she and Tom Hanks throw for their celebrity friends.
Clarkson has also recently covered “Glimpse of Us” by Joji (with not one but two pianos! ), “Come Out and Play (Keep ‘Em Separated” by The Offspring, “All the Small Things” by Blink-182, and “Ordinary World” by Duran Duran.
