Late Queen Elizabeth II Bestowed Honorary knighthoods On John Williams And Bob Iger.
Former Disney CEO Bob Iger and Star Wars composer John Williams are the latest members of the entertainment industry to be knighted.
Both entertainers will receive the title of KBE, which stands for Knight Commander of the Civil Division of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire. Iger and Williams are just two of a larger 2022 class of approved honorary British awards bestowed by Queen Elizabeth II, who died on September 7 at the age of 96.
In a statement, Iger, who received the award for his contributions to US-UK relations, remembered the queen and her “extraordinary life and service.”
Williams was recognised separately for his contributions to film music. Non-Briton recipients of the KBE are typically those who have made significant contributions to the relationship between Britain and their own country.
Between 2005 and 2020, Iger served as the Walt Disney Company’s chief executive officer, chairman of the Board, and executive chairman. Beyond Star Wars, Williams, a legendary, award-winning composer and conductor, has frequently collaborated with Steven Spielberg and worked on a number of iconic Hollywood scores, including Jurassic Park, Harry Potter, and Indiana Jones.
Iger and Williams are among the last people to receive the late queen’s honours. Previous honorees have included Bono, Ralph Lauren, and Rod Stewart.
Williams’ representatives have been contacted for comment by The Hollywood Reporter.
