Madonna And Steps Compete For The Top Of The UK Charts

In the UK chart race, a poptacular battle is brewing between Madonna’s remix compilation and Steps’ career retrospective.

Steps’ Platinum Collection, which collects the five-piece pop act’s biggest hits, tops the Official Chart Update, with 14 top 10 singles and two No. 1s.

Madonna was also popular in the United Kingdom. She’s lived the highlife on the UK chart like few others, with 12 albums reaching No. 1 — a record for a solo female artist and tied for third all-time with Bruce Springsteen. If – or rather, when – she scores another No. 1, Madonna will join Robbie Williams and Elvis Presley at No. 2 on the all-time list, with the Beatles topping the chart with 15 No. 1s.
Aitch, a Manchester rapper, is still on the hunt. Close to Home, the 22-year-old hip-hop artist’s latest debut LP, debuts at No. 3 on the chart update, fueled by streaming activity.
Close to Home is the market leader in streams this week, outpacing Steps on streaming platforms by nearly seven-to-one, according to the Official Charts Company.

Close to Home will be Aitch’s third appearance in the top ten albums chart, following AitcH20 (No. 3) in 2019 and Polaris (No. 10) in 2020. (No. 7).
Meanwhile, Brendon Urie’s latest Panic! at the Disco single could land him a fifth UK top ten. Viva Las Vengeance is an album by At The Disco. It’s on schedule for a No. 4 arrival.
Following the release of 25th anniversary editions, Oasis’ record-breaking third studio album Be Here Now completes the top 5, while Demi Lovato looks set for a fifth U.K. top 10 appearance with Holy Fvck, which debuts at No. 6 on the chart update.
Finally, Hot Chip, the British synthpop act, could return to the top 10 for the first time in 14 years with Freakout/Release, their eighth studio album, which is expected to debut at No. 7; and Five Finger Death Punch, the American heavy rockers, could add to their tally of three U.K. top 10 appearances with AfterLife. It is their ninth studio album, and it is expected to debut at No. 9.
